FUNDING You’ll need to look in a number of places to find funding for your marketing budget. There will be several categories for allocations, too. The good news is that, as you have already learned, marketing your business is easier and less expensive today than ever before!

Part of your budget will go towards website memberships and internet-provided services. Fortunately, most of these are initially free, so you can set up your accounts for a very low cost and start making money from your business. This gives you some budget for later on, after you decide which area in which to expand.

For instance, on Facebook, you can bid on advertising. They set a limit, so that the big businesses can’t shut you out. Most sites that provide opportunities to advertise will allow you to purchase Pay-Per-Click or Pay-Per-View advertising for varying amounts of money. For the small or mid-sized business, this is a great way to get into the advertising world. It is fairly inexpensive, and it has included feedback on the success of the marketing campaign. All of the social networking sites have these services.

Also, remember to look for sites within your industry in which to place your ads and blogs, that are an authority and in your niche. You’ll get a lot of good information, and provide information, too.

TRACK WHAT WORKS As you build your promotions and advertising campaigns, you’ll need to keep track of what is working for you. Are your widgets bringing in email addresses? If not, find out why. Are they annoying and scaring people off? Maybe they’re too subtle, and no one notices them on the page. If your widgets are appropriate, yet getting no click-throughs, you may need to change your offer.

You need to read the reports on the sites where you have your ads. You can find out how many people looked at your ad, how much time they spent looking at it, and where they are located. If an ad campaign is successful in one area and not another, try to find out why. You may need to find another market, or change your campaign.

Your small to medium business will benefit tremendously from a little too nil advertising budget, all because of the convenience of the internet. With some careful monitoring and tweaking, you can bring in customers, expanding your list exponentially.
