The Hall of Fame

Friends and family at VGS To the Vaudeville Golfing Society 82nd Annual

Dinner & Caberet, this year hosted by club cap- tain Jess Conrad OBE (Old British Entertainer). With top comedians Booby Davro and Stan

Boardman joining the ageing crooner on the top table Jess – famous for his glittering pop career in the ‘60’s and later as a star of the stage – was bound to be in for a roasting and a roasting he got. Being the family publication that we are the

HoF won’t go into too much detail. After all, the “boys only” VGS is renowned for being some- thing akin to a stag night. We will leave you with this little cheery number

from Davro though. “My daughter came home from school the oth-

er day and she was really sad,” he said. “What’s up sweetie pie, you look so distraught?” “I’m so sorry Dad but I said the “C” word today.” “Oh that’s not very Clever is it.” “No, it was C*nt.”

Howard’s away Changing times at Nationwide sees Paul Howard

step again into the Hall of Fame this month. As we exclusively revealed last month the head of corpo- rate accounts at the mutual is leaving at the end of December and off to pastures yet to be decided. Regular readers will know that Howard, a keen

fan of Britney Spears, will not be left off the red carpet for long. Nigel Stockton, financial services director at

HoF

broker Countrywide, was quick to heap on the praise. “Paul is a doyen of the industry,” he told the .

“A loyal servant and massive contributor to the

UK mortgage market. He is a true gentleman and I doff my cap to you Mr H.” As does the HoF!

Simply grinding Hot on the heels of Britney last month it was

Woolwich’s turn to impress, with intermediary channel director David Finlay whisking Mortgage Introducer editor Sarah Davidson off to see the Rihanna at London’s O2 arena. Our Davo was in for a splendid night and was joined by ‘soon-to-be Countrywide’s Emma Hol- lingworth, L&G’s Ben Thompson and Mortgage Advice Centre’s Helen Crowther Dowey. “I couldn’t believe it,” an excited Davo piped up to the HoF

. “There was so much grinding.” Talk about Good Girl Gone Bad. 54 MORTGAGE INTRODUCER DECEMBER 2011 Expo Success

To the Mortgage Busi- ness Expo and what an event it was. Mortgage Introducer was out in force, exhibiting alongside our sister magazine Bridging Introducer. Alas, there was much

disappointment on the day when it became apparent that the Mighty Yuan Phoon would not be on display in the stocks – as promised on page 64 last month. As sponsors of the only

official after show party we made sure the end of the first day got off to a mighty bang. MI associate pub-

lisher Matt Bond kept the glasses filled throughout the evening and even averted disaster at the end of the night, rescuing one poor victim from the clutches of a vile and over amorous broker.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

The legendary Deirdre McManus makes her way in to the Hall of Fame this month for raising another incredible amount of dosh for Cancer Research through the Broomstick Ball. Deirdre has been running this spectacular event

for 13 years and it is the only fun-filled charitable night held soley in aid of Cancer Research to grace the steps of the mortgage market. The bash took place at the brand new and exclusive St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel raising wads of cash through a “money can’t buy” auction. Yet again the evening was a huge success, helped in no small part by Precise Mortgages managing director Alan Cleary the host for the night who whilst perhaps raising a few eyebrows did in fact raise some much needed sponsorship which had been lacking in recent years. Deidre, for raising what will be close to £35,000 and making the night a huge success, the HoF salutes you and is proud to have helped out once again.
