project (ELI) forms part of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructure’s (ESFRI) plans to develop Europe’s next generation of large research centres which will comprise suites of integrated laser facilities located in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. A fourth site, dedicated to dealing with the specialist ultra-high peak power component of the programme, will be confirmed in 2012. It has been suggested that these facilities could develop means of slowing down the ageing process currently limiting the lifetime of reactors, controlling the lifetime of waste products, fabricating new pharmaceutical products and developing new types of Hadron therapy. The Prague scheme will act as a pilot for the framework and will focus

on providing an entirely new generation of secondary resources produced by ultra-intensive lasers. The project involves the construction of a 32,000 m2 state of art ELI Beamlines Centre which will house the complex series of laser, optical, vacuum and electronic sub systems in a three storey hall. This facility will be supported by a network of laboratories, offices and conference halls, all carefully designed to provide clean room, temperature controlled environments and ensure the mechanical stability of the structure. As one of the largest laser laboratories in the world, the ELI Beamlines

Project, and its sister schemes across Europe, will attract the highest calibre Physicists, Engineers, Oncologists and Environmental scientists keen to revolutionise the fields of laser and particle accelerator engineering, nuclear pharmacology, oncology, X-ray and gamma-ray imaging.

A First In TFM Outsourcing For Irwin Mitchell

After bringing in-house the sales of its market leading High Security

Multipoint locks, bolts and secure access systems earlier this year, Pickersgill-Kaye is pleased to announce the attainment of the BS EN 1125:2008 and BS EN 179:2008 ratings for the emergency escape devices included in the range. The new certification updates that already held under the sales

agreement with Adams Rite, while also endorsing the quality standards and production control at the Leeds based lock manufacturer’s site. Following a comprehensive mechanical testing process, factory inspection and production assessment, all undertaken by Exova Warrington APT, both surface and mortice mounted iterations (HS120 & HS210) of the emergency/panic escape locks passed the standards required for certification, allowing architects and contractors to continue specifying them as an essential part of a secure doorset. Achieving the BS EN standard is a legal requirement for these devices

and product compliance is strictly audited on an annual basis. Successful certification demonstrates that Pickersgill-Kaye has the infrastructure to support both production and sales of the High Security Multipoint Locks range for the long term and is fully committed to maintaining its position at the leading edge of lock design and manufacture. Peter Murphy, managing director of Pickersgill-Kaye said: “All our

products have a long standing reputation for performance, strength, security and durability. Our multipoint locking products have always held BS EN certification but it is a positive step to now get this under our own name and reassures our customers that we plan to continue providing a full range of the highest quality security products.” Pickersgill-Kaye’s High Security Multipoint range of locks, bolts and fittings has been specifically developed to meet exacting standards of physical attack but maintain safe and easy exit, when needed, without compromising health and safety issues. The products are manufactured to the highest specifications and, in addition to the BS EN standards, have undergone independent blast testing, fire testing and rigorous cycle testing to in excess of 1 million cycles. Suitable for both steel and wooden doors, the range incorporates

several operational options to conform to current fire safety standards and DDA regulations and can be integrated with specialised access control requirements or configurations to meet most applications. The High Security Multipoint locks are constructed with hardened steel bolts and stainless steel lock cases and, as with all Pickersgill-Kaye products, are backed by outstanding technical expertise.
