OCEA patrol boat solutions prove popular
Having delivered 21 FPB 98 Mk1 patrol craſt to the Algerian Coast Guard, French boat builder OCEA recently secured more export orders for the design and has been awarded orders for three units for the Benin Navy and, it is thought, four units for Senegal.
and medium-sized aluminium hulled platforms. These platforms include: a high-speed, shallow draſt craſt for riverine and harbour patrol, in three designs ranging in size from 5.5m to 9.8m; fast patrol boats ranging in size from 13m to 26.5m for inshore patrol; and larger patrol boats of 31.8m to 58m for patrol of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Te FPB98 design is the smallest in

the company’s range of designs for patrolling the EEZ.
It has a length
of 31.8m, beam of 6.3m, draught of 1.15-1.70m and a displacement of around 100tonnes fully loaded. With a crew of 12-14, speed at full load
is 15-35knots, depending on sea state and engine configuration; range is 1000nm at 12knots. Te boats have an integrated bridge system and an integrated platform management system (IPMS) and a weapon control station in the bridge. Propulsion is by twin waterjets driven by two Caterpillar C 32 diesels.
Algerian version The Algerian version of the FPB 98 Mk1 is armed with a remote-controlled, gyro-stabilized 30mm DS 30B Mk 2 gun mount; the newbuild versions for the African navies that are acquiring the design are likely to have a 20-30mm cannon. Te lead FPB for Benin is due for delivery
in early 2012 with subsequent deliveries every two months; the Senegalese boats are due to begin being delivered by mid-2012. Deliveries are due to have been completed by the end of 2012. OCEA has

Kuwait Coast Guard as well an older 32.6m patrol boat. Other variants include the FPB 115, with a length of 37.3m, beam of 7.1m, draught of 1.30m, crew of 12-18, speed at full load of 15-40knots depending on sea state and a range of 1000nm at 12knots. Next up in size is the FPB150 variant
with a length of 46.35m, beam of 8.5m and a draught of 2.7m. This boat can carry a crew of 22-26, although maximum speed at full load is reduced to 30knots, the emphasis being on endurance and range, which varies from 2500-4000nm at 12knots. Te River 19 is the smallest of the three
riverine and port security craſt and has a length of 5.5m, beam of 2m and a draught of 0.2m, crew of

maximum speed of 20-40knots and a range of 100nm at 15knots. Next in line is the 6.7m River 2; the largest craſt of this
type is the 9.8m River 28, with a beam of 3.15m and a draught of 0.55-1.0m, crew of 7-12, a speed of up to 40knots and a range of 200nm at 15knots. Te company’s range of inshore patrol
craſt includes the 13m FPB 40, 16.9m FPB 50, 19.8m FPB 60, 23.3m FPB 72 and the new FPB 85 Mk 1 design with a length of 26.5m, beam of 6m, draught of 1.1m, crew of 10-12 and maximum speed of up to 45knots with a range of 400nm at 25knots. A small RHIB with an A-frame is also standard equipment on the FPB 85 Mk1. Two machineguns – one fore, one aſt – can be fitted to the FPB 85.
New vessel range In the last two years, OCEA has extended its
range by developing
five new
models. The largest of these is the helicopter-capable OPV 190 with a length of 58m, beam of 9.4m and draught
