HIS ISSUE IS ABOUT MOUNT PLEASANT’S children. Just look at our front cover again. Couldn’t you just hug it!? According to the 2010 Census, there are 4,070 children under 5 and 16,282 under 18 liv- ing in Mount Pleasant. It’s obvious in our hearts and in these numbers that Mount Pleasant is very much about our children; this issue of Mount Pleasant
Magazine is dedicated to them. Mount Pleasant offers the perfect environment for raising children – and for grandparents like me to spend special time with their grandchildren. Water- front Park is one of our many wonderful green spaces and was the perfect setting for this issue’s “Layers of Cuteness” photo shoot (pages 62 to 68), which showcases fashions and services from local businesses catering to children. We’re kicking off Mount Pleasant Magazine’s first baby stork basket con- test on pages 18 to 24. With two hospitals in Mount Pleasant and dozens of mothers expecting new arrivals, the race is on to see who will welcome the first baby of 2012. Our websites and Facebook page, www.Facebook. com/MountPleasantMagazine, will announce the winner, and our next issue will feature an article about the baby and his or her family. Over the years, we hope you’ll enjoy following the first baby stork basket contest. We’ve put in a lot of work and had plenty of fun publishing this issue
for you, and we’ve put together some great articles we hope you’ll read and appreciate. We know from the tremendous response to the first edition of Mount Pleasant Magazine how much Mount Pleasant residents love having their own community magazine. We’ve had so much positive response from our advertisers and readers that we’ve increased our circulation and direct mail by 12.5 percent. Magazines always have had the luxury of a personal relationship with
their readers, not only because of their specific editorial focus but also due to the personal touches of the people behind the magazine. Publishing a magazine is truly a labor of love. We introduce you to some of the people behind Mount Pleasant Magazine on page 9. As you get to know us and we get to know you, we hope our relationship
will grow and strengthen, just as Mount Pleasant is growing.
