Examinations
The RAD Dance School is an Approved Examination Centre and offers male and female students of all ages the opportunity to prepare and enter for a range of RAD examinations and assessments which are internationally recognised, and many of which are accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework.
The examinations and assessments provide students with:
• achievable goals to work towards • recognition from the world’s largest ballet examination board
• qualifications that are fully accredited by the regulatory authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
• the impetus to achieve their personal best in a fun and nurturing environment
Students may start with the Pre-School Dance Curriculum, move up through Pre-Primary and Primary levels and then into eight Graded levels or six Vocational Graded levels. Students may move from Graded to Vocational classes at an appropriate time; or they may study both levels simultaneously.
From 2012 candidates who achieve a Pass or higher at Grades 6-8, Intermediate or Advanced Foundation can use their exam result to count towards their UCAS points tariff when applying to a university or Higher Education institution in the UK.
Assessments and Examinations offered by the RAD Dance School
Pre-School Dance Curriculum develops basic movement skills, musical awareness, expression and creativity. Themed classes incorporating props encourage class participation, focus and confidence that prepare students for entry to the Pre-Primary in Dance syllabus. Demonstration Classes are an optional part of the Pre-School Dance Curriculum; they give the children an opportunity to perform a selection of the material covered over the year to an invited audience of parents/guardians of those participating and an RAD Examiner. This is an exciting and positive experience for the students and a wonderful way to introduce them to the RAD syllabus.
The Graded Examinations in Dance syllabus provides a broad practical dance education and develops technical, musical and performance skills. It incorporates ballet, free movement and character.
The Vocational Graded Examinations in Dance syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet, develops technique, music and performance skills and introduces pointe work for female candidates.
We also offer Presentation Classes based on the Graded Examination syllabus, which are not assessed and Class Awards, available at Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance, which are assessed.
