Dear Sisters, November 11: Veterans Day. I know you all

have many things planned to mark this day. It’s why we are here. On this special day, be sure to reach out and shake the hand of a veteran, look him or her in the eye and say, “Thank you.” We have seven Membership deadlines for

November and December. Do you have them on your calendar? And have you made plans to help reach your goals? I am asking Departments to reach 91% by December 31 in order to qualify for our incredibly special Night on the Town in Hawaii! We CAN do this! It will take determination and a deep belief in what we do to make it happen.

I am thankful for each of you! I am reminded of your caring hearts when

I read stories like those featured in this issue. On Page 18, you will find a special way to honor those killed in action. It can be replicated in any location. On Pages 22-28, you will find all the ways that Auxiliaries are utilizing the Military Assistance Program’s grants, with everything from picnics to welcome-home parties. You will be inspired to plan your own function and then contact the VFW’s MAP department about how to apply for a MAP grant. Remember, every Auxiliary, District, Department or Junior Girls Unit that donates $100 or more to National Military Services (which MAP is a part of) will receive a special citation from me! See Page 31 of the National Program Book for details. On Page 16, read about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s initiative

“The Call for Photos.” They want to put a face with every name listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall. Do you have a loved one’s name on the wall? Find out how to submit a photo to be linked with that name. The sacrifices of veterans become much more personal to the public when they come to know those who died fighting for their country. Let’s be a part of this!

Loyally, Gwen Rankin National President

Also, Sisters, don’t forget to be tracking all your service hours, dollars and mileage to pass on for the VFW’s Community Service reports!
