News&People Saudi Cargo expands its US operations


BRUSSELS AIRPORT processed 36,500 tonnes of cargo in August, down by 3 percent on the same month of 2010. The airport said that full-freighter traffic was down and lower exports from Asia in particular had impacted traffic. But integra- tor volumes and bellyhold cargo were both up year-on-year.


MENLO WORLDWIDE Logistics of California has been approved as a ‘Responsible Care’ partner by the American Chemistry Council, meaning that the company is recognised as safely storing, handling and transporting chemicals.


RIGA-BASED AIRLINE airBaltic has filed for legal protec- tion in order to continue operations. The carrier is blaming the Latvian government for what it perceives as a lack of support in its role as a minority shareholder.


SAUDI AIRLINES Cargo has begun flying to the US from its European hub in Brussels. The freight carrier has


begun offering the capacity on three B747 freighter flights a week to New York JFK and Houston International airport from the Belgian capital. Further connections are


then available on Saudi Air- lines flights to destinations elsewhere in the US, including Atlanta, Detroit and the West Coast cities of Los Angeles and Seattle. Sander van Woesik, Saudi

200Fs and a single A310F. It also has access to the con-


siderable bellyhold cargo capacity of the Saudi Airlines


passenger fleet of 125 aircraft. Saudi Arabia’s flag-carrier


flies its freighter and passenger aircraft to 225 destinations around the world.
