Annual Fund Matters: Mind the Gap You have made it possible for me (and many other students)
to discover and pursue my passions. We truly depend on your support to keep the inspiration alive on campus. —Sincerely, Abby
I, too, will be an alumna who gives back. I recognize and honor your commitment to our lovely Alma Mater. —With deepest thanks, Anna
I thank you for your gift because it represents the best combination of tangible resources and the intangible spirit of sisterhood that is Mount Holyoke College. —With my thanks, Chelsea
This spring, during the Annual Fund’s Mind the Gap Days, more than 700 students wrote postcards saying “thanks” to Mount Holyoke alumnae. Why? Because they know alumnae gifts help fund their entire MHC experience. Mind the Gap Days were launched this past year
to draw attention to the budget gap that would exist each year if the College relied on tuition alone to run the College; tuition covers just 65% of the cost to educate each student. The bottom line? Alumnae giving helps to bridge the gap. The goal of the Mind the Gap initiative is to
create student awareness of the importance of alumnae giving, and to inculcate—before our students graduate—the importance of giving back.
During Mind the Gap Days, students learned
about some of the costs of a Mount Holyoke College education:
$166,000 to operate and maintain Mead Hall for one year
$25,000 to operate the Williston Library and LITS for one day
$20,000 to maintain one science lab each year $1,460 one field hockey match $400 one night of M&Cs
