enerally, the results of the Intelligent Insurer Awards 2011 revealed few surprises, with the vast majority of awards going to established players in their respective sectors.
Munich Re dominated the reinsurance category and Aon Benfield
again showed strong results as the dominant reinsurance broker for the second year running. Guy Carpenter, however, picked up the prize for best property reinsurance broker.
The company’s insurance arm, Marsh, also demonstrated a strong
performance in the primary insurance broker results, which were last year dominated by Aon.
In a new addition to the Intelligent Insurer Awards, we have also polled
readers on who they believe to be the leading banks in the insurance and reinsurance sector. Notable results here included a strong performance by Goldman Sachs, which picked up awards for best bank in the equities capital-raising markets, best bank for mergers and acquisitions, and the award for best bank overall for 2011.
JP Morgan also demonstrated a strong performance, picking up awards for best bank for letters of credit and for debt bond capital-raising markets.
In terms of service providers, there was little change in the results in comparison with last year, with Standard & Poor’s picking up the award for best rating agency, PricewaterhouseCoopers picking up the award for best accountancy firm and Risk Management Solutions (RMS) winning the award for best catastrophe modelling company.
There was a slight change in terms of the top reinsurance chief
executive, with one of last year’s runners-up, Dennis Kessler of SCOR, taking this year’s top spot.
