Singapore and Hong Kong MPS has a large team of medicolegal advisers, claims handlers and membership advisers that are dedicated to providing you with guidance and expertise. Over the next few issues of Casebook, we will be showcasing the individuals involved, beginning with three members of the medicolegal adviser team.
Dr Ming Keng Teoh LLM, MBCHB, FRCSE, FRCS, CHM, MSC(HEALTH MANAgEMENT), MFFLM MPS Head of Medical Services (Asia)
Dr Teoh is Head of Medical Services (Asia) at MPS. He is based in the MPS London office but spends a lot of time in Asia assisting members in MPS’s key jurisdictions of Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Dr Teoh was born in Penang and attended St ©avier’s Institution, before leaving for the UK and graduating in medicine from Bristol University in 1980. After surgical training in the UK he returned to Malaysia in 1987 to work as a vascular and general surgeon in Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. He joined the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1988 as a lecturer and then Associate Professor to help set up the country’s vascular surgery service. Dr Teoh completed his vascular
research thesis on antioxidants and arterial disease in 1994 and was awarded ChM by Bristol University. He was appointed consultant vascular surgeon in 1994 at Singapore General Hospital, before being promoted to Senior Consultant and Director of the Vascular Surgery Unit in 1996. In 2004 he completed his MSc in Health Management at the Imperial College Business School (London) and joined MPS as a medicolegal adviser. He obtained his LLM in medical law from Cardiff University and was appointed to his current position at MPS in 2008. His previous appointments include being Founding President of the Vascular Surgical Society
Singapore; President of the Asian Vascular Society; Senior Clinical Lecturer, National University of Singapore; Member of Council, College of Surgeons of Malaysia; and examiner in Malaysia, Singapore and Pakistan. He has published and lectured extensively in surgical, vascular and medicolegal topics. Dr Teoh’s interests include medical ethics and helping doctors be happier doctors; and he hopes to increase professional satisfaction amongst the profession through less fear and a greater understanding of medicolegal issues.

Dr Janet Page LLM MFFLM BSC MBBS MRCP FRCR MPS Medicolegal Adviser
Janet joined MPS in 2001, bringing with her 18 years’ experience of clinical practice in both the public and private sectors, nine of these as a consultant radiologist. She was awarded an LLM (Distinction) in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice in 2003. As a medicolegal adviser, Janet has extensive experience of working with members in both UK and other jurisdictions (including the Caribbean and Bermuda and, more recently, Hong Kong and Singapore). In addition to her file-handling responsibilities, Janet is a regular contributor to medical and related publications advising on medicolegal issues relevant to MPS members. Janet is also an accredited mediator. Regarding her work with MPS in Asia,

Dr Pallavi Bradshaw graduated from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, gaining a BA (Hons) with a dissertation in Medical Law and Ethics.ªShe trained at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and graduated from the clinical school in December 2001.ª Pallavi began specialist training in ophthalmology in 2003 and was also awarded the MA (Cantab).ªShe then gained membership to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London) in September 2005, before continuing higher specialist training until February 2007, when she started at MPS as a medicolegal adviser.ª Pallavi has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at the College of Law, Guildford and was awarded a commendation in June 2010. In her role as medicolegal adviser, Pallavi supports and advises doctors in the UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Pallavi is also involved with writing medicolegal articles and giving lectures. She is on the editorial board of the MPS publication for junior doctors in the UK, New Doctor, and is a media spokesperson.
