Punching above its weight

Ben Thompson reports on Precision Training’s move into the boxing market and its plans to grow its offering.

P

recision Training moved into the boxing market earlier in 2011 (see SGB Sports May 2011) with a range of products designed for amateur boxers that allow them to train like professionals.

This includes punch bags to headguards, speed balls to sparring gloves and pads, which Precision said have been an instant success despite a relatively soft launch into the market.

Curved hook and jab pads are made from high- quality leather and have a red outer and black palms with a red target. The Precision Boxing punch bag comes complete with four black webbing hanging strips with a D ring on each and is filled with cut fabric pieces. Its floor-to-ceiling ball has a leather outer and inflatable bladder, and two elastic ropes for floor and ceiling attachment. The full face leather headguard offers supreme protection to the cheek, chin and head, and is CE marked for safety compliance.

At launch, Precision Training national sales manager David Sanderson said: “Our success in other sports has been built on being able to deliver high-quality training equipment and apparel to all levels and boxing is no different in this respect.

“The sport has seen something of a rejuvenation in recent years and like any other sport in the UK the people involved

want to be able to train like the

professionals and use the same equipment.

“We can deliver on that requirement at very

competitive prices and as with the other sporting fields that we work with we are keen to help develop and promote the sport at a grassroots level.” Over the summer, Sanderson has

been delighted with the reception Precision Boxing has received, and said: “Initial signs are very positive for Precision Boxing and sales have been fantastic so far. “The autumn/winter sales period will be an important selling period for us but to say we are delighted with the retailers’ response would be an understatement.

“As is the Precision Training way, we spotted a potential gap in the market and we did our homework. A lot of research has gone into the project and we have worked

closely with manufacturers, boxing coaches and athletes to deliver high-

quality product at affordable prices.”

The success has prompted

Precision Training to look into extending the Precision Boxing brand and

supplementary products are

expected in the New Year. Precision Boxing is now working on a range of clothing and footwear to

supplement the brand.
