‘FIRST OF THE YEAR (EQUINOX)’ASYLUM RECORDS/BIG BEAT RECCORDS
IF you want a fi gurehead for the emergence of dubstep as a global musical force to be reckoned with, then it’s Skrillex, aka LA-based Sonny More. With a background in metal (he was formally in the band From First to Last), he’s replaced guitar feedback with LFO as the
sound of rebellion for angry, alienated teenage kids dressed in black. Quite whether it will help them fi ght off paedophiles, as in the dubious video, is debatable (OK it’s not, it won’t), but it seems to be propelling Skrillex to Deadmau5 levels of fame.
LIL SILVA DJWEEKLY PODCAST #51
ONE of funky’s earliest innovators, rude and raw tracks like ‘Pulse vs. Flex’ helped propel Lil Silva – who earned his name making grime previous to this - to the top of the game, with even the likes of Prosumer dropping his tracks. Snapped up by Night Slugs, his subsequent ‘Night Skanker’ EP sealed his
reputation while ‘Cheese N Bun’ from this year’s ‘The Patience’ EP proved another scene wide hit. You can catch him playing Benji B’s Deviation Carnival afterparty at Paradise, Kilburn Lane, on Monday.
