W

hat do a business leader and a retired warehouse worker have in common? Gratitude for the life-giving care provided by Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin.

Philip Orth of Milwaukee was chairman of Ph. Orth Co. He and his wife, Mariette Clark

Orth, served the community for decades through dozens of charitable and civic organizations. In the mid-1980s, Mariette was

diagnosed with cancer, and her doctors thought she might survive 10 years. Thanks to the innovative surgical care she received at Froedtert & The Medical College, Mariette lived another quarter century. Philip died in 2009 and Mariette passed away last March. The couple left approximately $500,000 to the Froedtert Hospital Foundation’s Clinical Research Fund.

Neil Andrich, a former warehouse

worker from Waterford, Wis., passed away this spring. Thirteen years ago he received a life- saving liver transplant at Froedtert & The Medical College. In appreciation, Neil made sure his will included a significant gift to the Transplant Fund, which supports research and other initiatives.

According to James Thomas, MD, PhD, Medical College of Wisconsin medical oncologist,

gifts like these help translate scientific discoveries into new therapies. “Support for clinical research directly benefits patients right now by providing access to

cutting-edge treatments that will likely become the new standard of care in the near future,” Dr. Thomas said.
