looKing toward thE FuturE The Internet has removed traditional sales interactions between stores and customers. This fosters a sense that content found on the Internet is not as legitimate as that found in a store, although the content found there is still created and distributed by people. to be raised with this anomaly. Those who believe the RIAA and MPAA take advantage of artists and consumers or that copyright law is archaic have missed the point – copyright infringement is still against the law and using material illegally obtained from the Internet is still stealing.
Copyright law and awareness of ethical Internet behavior must be integrated into K-12 curriculum to allow these concepts to become second nature as children grow and make use of this ever-evolving technology. Knowledge of these concepts will reduce future demand for pirated
material. To help educators begin today, the Library of Congress has posted an informative interactive video for teachers and students as a means of increasing awareness of copyright law:
