This flexible course allows users to take some or all the course content, any time that works for them, in a facilitated environment that provides feedback from experts and colleagues.
CONTENT
“Michigan History for 3rd Grade Teachers” covers the period from the glaciers to 1837 by featuring important elements in and significant contributions to Michigan achieving statehood.
Users will explore and learn more about relevant topics and develop resources suitable for classroom use about a wide variety of subjects.
PARTICIPATION/SOCIAL NETWORKING
The course pairs high-quality digital content with a Facebook group to enable sharing and collaboration that enhances and extends the learning experience.
ENROLLMENT
Registered Michigan LearnPort users may enroll in any of the four course modules at any time. Access to the requested module begins the Monday after a user enrolls.
STIPENDS
Complete all four units, meet additional requirements and earn a $200 stipend.

Scienceas a way of Thinking
This course introduces
Elementary and Middle School science teachers to teaching science as “a
way of thinking” through the methods of inquiry and induction.
The course is made up of
four modules. Each module
contains a small assignment, exposing
participants to resources and preparing them for the final
course project.
The Online Teaching and Learning Mastery (OTLM) program is a four-course online program for K-12 educators who want to build skills and become leaders in the rapidly advancing field of online/ blended teaching and learning.
This is a hand-on and practical program, resulting in skills in design and implementation as well as products for immediate use. SB-CEUs are available.
COURSE AT A GLANCE Delivery: Online with a few face-to-face/
teleconference sessions.
Courses: An Introduction 3-week course and 3 Core courses each 7-8 weeks requiring about 4-6 hours of your commitment per week. Practicum with mentor support. Participate at your time within weekly completion frames.
Learning: Learn with and from a cohort of K-12 educators and an experienced instructor of online
teaching and learning through individual and collaborative online activities. Access to a social networking site rich with resources, tools and task aids.
Outcomes: Knowledge and skills in design and teaching of online activities and courses and ready to use online products.
Goals: Participants will study the important themes of online teaching and learning in a continuous spiral so
that each concept is explored in more depth throughout each course of the program.
Themes are: E-Learner, E-Instructor, Assessment/ Evaluation and E-Instructional Design
Participants will participate in a community of peers that will provide regular feedback, support and interaction.
Participants will apply all elements of the content to their current teaching situation in a variety of practicum opportunities.
Participants will regularly contribute to a community of practice in an online social networking site.
