Dropping or “logging” on corners is a high level skill for goalkeepers. On the National Team, this technique is being used less frequently due to the success and popularity of drag flicks in international play. However, when playing on Astroturf at the college level, dropping on corners is a necessary skill. It is important to begin to develop this skill early on in your career so that the transition from high school to college hockey will be smoother.
The decision to remain standing or body drop on a hit ball will depend on the field surface, shot angle and the skill of the opponent. The use of the body drop on corners is not the best decision on grass or field turf due to the inconsistencies of these surfaces. Goalies playing on Astroturf will find the highest success rate by dropping on a corner if the initial shot is a hit ball, which must
