“There is nothing more simple and pure than a right angle. It’s essential in math; buildings are supported by them; even haircuts are designed around them. So the fun part for me when I work in the art studio, is to create spheres, circles and slopes with nothing other than millions of right angles. It’s what makes the basic LEGO brick so fascinating. In addition, there is a nostalgia factor in the original toy. And I also appreciate the cleanliness of the lines. As so often in life, it is a matter of perspective. Up close, the shape of the brick is distinctive. But from a distance, those right angles and distinct lines flow, sweep and curve into something completely different.”
You can catch The Art of the Brick in the US at the Mulvane Art Museum in Topeka, Kansas from June 18th until September 18th. Shows in Melbourne and Paris are just ending. More shows are scheduled beginning this fall in the US. To see the show schedule, visit his website HERE.
