CONTRIBUTORS Ginni Callahan

Misadventures with an open canoe in the Pacific surf 15 years ago convinced Callahan that she needed a sea kayak. In the winter, she guides and coaches in the National Marine Park of Loreto in Mexico. “Teaching in a foreign language is a great impetus to use the fewest words possible, and using games is one effective way to inspire students, build camaraderie, develop fitness and get paddlers to practice.” Learn to play Callahan’s favorite games on page 33.

Vince Paquot PRIMO TRAILER SALES

Ottawa, ON Canada • 800-558-5178 www.primotrailersales.com

Paquot has been serving up brain food as Adventure Kayak’s Paddling Gourmet columnist since 2009. His knowledge runs deeper than mere recipes. “If you ask for a simple bag of peanuts,” says friend Sean Gustini, “Vince is able to quote the name and location of the plantation from whence it came. You’ll leave with not just peanuts, but also geopolitical-economic- social understanding. Somehow, they will be the best peanuts you ever eat.” See what Paquot is cooking this issue on page 25.

Alec and Sharon

Bloyd-Peshkin Alec and Sharon steal time from their day jobs as a cabinetmaker and journalism professor, respectively, to teach sea kayak- ing throughout the Midwest. Researching what pro paddlers keep in their PFDs (“The Right Stuff,” page 24) was fasci- nating, says Sharon, because “everyone’s choices related to their own experiences.”

Doug Elsey

A documentary photographer special- izing in scientific, military and adventure expeditions, Elsey has shot on assignment forNational Geographic, Popular Science, NATO, the U.S. and Norwegian Navies and the Icelandic Coast Guard. The undersea explorer and retired professional ocean engineer brings the same deter- mination to “document the spirit of life’s adventures” to his passion for sea kayaking (Photo Annual, page 36).

Scott MacGregor

Behind the scenes of every issue of Ad- venture Kayak is founder and publisher MacGregor. He was all for the cover story, “Fancy Moves You’ll Never Use” (page 31), “Yeah, let’s just be silly. What’s the kayaking equivalent of gunwale bobbing anyway?” He says he’s going to find out this summer. Dental x-rays will be posted in the next issue.
