We were sad to hear of the deaths of Mauritanian singer and World Circuit recording artist Dimi Mint Abba, on 4th June aged 52; of old time country singer Spencer Moore, on 5th June aged 92; of R&B singer Carl Gardner of the Coasters, on 12th June aged 83; of the last of the great Hindustani rudra (fretted stick or tube zither) maestros Asad Ali Khan on 14th June aged around 74; and of English folk giant Mike Waterson, on 22nd June aged 70.
BBC Radio 3’s World On 3 (Fridays at 11.15pm) has Lopa Kothari presenting Sondorgo (22nd July), highlights from Womad co-presented with Mary Ann Kennedy (29th July & 5th August); Mary Ann with the Bibilang Shark Calling Group
