APP REVIEW
APP NAME : SOUND CELLS DEVELOPER : BIG ROBOT STUDIOS FORMAT : PRICE :
SOUND Cells is a synth pattern generator and the parameters are controlled via a very basic interface. Activating any number of 64 blocks with the touch of your finger will begin the block on a vertical journey, creating a sound every time it rebounds against the edge of the blocked area. If two blocks come into contact with each other they change to a horizontal direction, resulting in different pitches. Complicated? It’s not, it’s hypnotically simple. There’s no challenge or learning curve to the app, you just set the blocks in motion then watch and hear them go. While there may be some skill

involved in creating a decent sounding pattern, we found the rule here to be to ensure you don’t overdo it with the blocks! Three or four blocks in motion make a very pleasant continuous loop, which you can naturally feed into any desktop DAW with the aid of a mini-jack connector from your mobile device. The settings feature echo, delay, decay and two sound presets, plus there’s a midi output option for connecting to midi instruments. You can select tempo, scale and key, which is very useful when recording into a project. £0.59 well spent we’d say.
