PAL RECEIVES GRANT $$
n Key West Police Athletic League’s PAL was presented a check for $5,000 from the Marion Stevens Fund named for the well-known local philanthropist who died at age 90 in 2000. She established a trust to benefit local organizations. One of her requests was to benefit children, particularly in the area of health, education and teen pregnancy. PAL offers athletic and academic programs for kids of all ages. Programs include boxing, martial arts, wrestling, soccer and basketball as well as computer training and tutoring.

MAKING WAY FOR STORMWATERS n Key West Community Services cleared brush along the canal behind Stadium Trailer Park, a vital waterway component of Searstown Shopping Center drainage system, as part of hurricane preparedness citywide. Te crew cleared brush and trash to make sure excess water has somewhere to go to avoid flooding.
