NAC Volunteer Award Auxiliary Member Named

National NAC Volunteer of the Year In short, veterans in all situations


iana Wong wowed ‘em with her service record and won well-deserved accolades

with this year’s VA Voluntary Service National Advisory Committee Volunteer of the Year Award. She was recognized at the NAC

VAVS annual meeting in Cincinnati last month and received her Ladies Auxiliary award at her Department Convention. Wong, the VAVS Deputy Representative for the Raymond G. Murphy

are never far from her thoughts and commitments, whether as part of the Honor Guard for official Veterans Day events, providing transportation to individuals’ appointments or securing a boat for Wounded Warriors recreational outings.

The awesome list of her volunteer connections in the community continues: Veterans of New Mexico, VFW Department Women Veterans Advisory Committee,Vice-President of Women Veterans of New Mexico,

One group she volunteers for called her a “Superwoman,” and another reported that her shining example “stands out in a multitude of jewels.”

Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., has volunteered hundreds of hours with seemingly inexhaustible energy.

For hospitalized veterans, she assists with an Ostomy Support Group and Chaplain Services. There she may be found serving communion to bedridden patients or serving as DJ for recreational events. For outpatient veterans, she is devoted to the Wounded Warrior Program. She also visits veterans at the Truth or Consequences, N.M., Veterans Home, assists her Auxiliary with an annual StandDown and helps provide security.

Transitional Living Program of Women Veterans of New Mexico, YWCA and TLC House to help homeless female veterans, AMVETS Service Officer, Valencia Blue Star Mothers, Albuquerque Veteran’s Memorial Park, WAVES, Navajo BIC Mission. One group she volunteers for called her a “Superwoman,” and the Navajo BIC Mission 150 miles from her home reported that her shining example “stands out in a multitude of jewels.” n MS
