evatec has extended its Optics Toolbox software to reduce the development time and costs of producing high-end optical thin films, such as 3D interference filters. The company’s ‘Thin Film Toolbox’ allows seamless integration of film design software, a proprietary strategy generator for layer termination, process recipe generation, and control of the coating process. The toolbox now supports both quartz-based and optical monitoring technologies. www.evatecnet.com

lambda research corporation’s award winning flagship product, TracePro, is a 3D CAD-based opto-mechanical software product for the development of optical and illumination systems. TracePro’s interactive optimiser feature is able to provide a quick sketch utility,

lighttrans recently introduced its VirtualLab 5 software for field tracing during the design of optical systems. Field tracing is a technique based on considerations of harmonic fields and provides more information than ray tracing about light in optical simulations. The approach allows the software to take into account diffraction, interference and polarisation effects, and aberrations caused by optimisation of the simulation. The software supports the design of micro-structured elements used in highly compact optical systems. VirtualLab 5 offers optimisation methods including local and global parametric optimisation, the iterative Fourier transform algorithm, and a design algorithm for grating cell arrays. This enables the design of diffractive beam splitters, diffusers, shapers, elements for shaping LED light, and gratings, as well as the optimisation of laser systems. www.lighttrans.com

interactive raytracing, and target digitisation for both LED and lamp- based illumination designs with complete access to each iteration of the optimisation. TracePro and the optimiser offer ease of use, a CAD interface, and accuracy, while the TracePro Bridge add-in recreates the TracePro system tree in Solidworks for easy optical property definition. www.lambdares.com

optima research has introduced its Zemax software, an affordable, state of the art product for the design and optimisation of complex optical systems. The software is suitable for applications including lens design, lighting, illumination, laser beam propagation, and stray light analysis, and supports CAD import/export, multi-threaded ray-tracing, and

ophir photonics has introduced version 5.5 of its BeamGage laser beam analysis software. The new version supports 64- bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7, as well as the company’s USB L11058 large format beam profiling camera. The 11-megapixel, 35mm

format L11058 is designed for measuring large laser beams. Its high resolution, 4,008 x 2,672 pixel format allows profiling of beams up to 24 x 36mm without requiring reduction optics. Frame rates of up to 3.1 frames per second at full resolution increase throughput and productivity. The camera accurately measures CW laser beams over a spectral range from 190 to 1100nm, with a wide dynamic range of 59dB.

analysis with up to 32 CPUs. Zemax- EE combines sequential and non- sequential modes within a common interface, making it easy to use. www.optima-research.com

LightTools, from Synopsys, is a 3D optical engineering and design software product that supports virtual prototyping, simulation, optimisation, and photorealistic renderings of illumination applications. Its design and analysis capabilities, combined with ease of use, support for rapid design iterations, and automatic design optimisation, help to speed delivery of illumination designs. The software features interactive point-and-shoot ray tracing for immediate conceptual feedback, as well as fully-integrated optimisation

to automatically improve any aspect of a design. Other features include: source libraries, example models, and application-specific utilities; an interactive, dynamic link with SolidWorks; a full suite of illumination simulation and analysis tools; photometric reports made in standard IES formats; forward and backward Monte Carlo ray trace capabilities; modelling of source spectra and colorimetric performance; and photorealistic rendering. www.opticalres.com

The camera features a global shutter, allowing simultaneous integration of the entire array. BeamGage is the industry’s

first beam profiling software to be newly designed, from scratch, using the most advanced tools and technologies. BeamGage provides high

accuracy results, guaranteeing that the data baseline (zero-point reference) is accurate to 1/8th of a digital count on a pixel-by-pixel basis. www.ophiropt.com
