APP REVIEW

APP NAME : SHAPESYNTH DEVELOPER : ERIK SIGTH FORMAT : PRICE :

IPHONE/IPAD/ITOUCH £1.19

According to the release notes, Shapesynth “let’s you draw the positive side of the oscillator wave and the negative form is mirrored”. That all sounds very impressive, but what does it mean in terms of using the app? At your disposal is an interface screen on which to draw wave shapes with your finger. You can be as reserved or experimental as you choose, though your creative doodling will greatly impact upon the final sound you create. There is a keyboard interface to trigger the sound you have designed, and using all of the other features within the app you can really go to town. There are editable parameters for the envelope and LFO, a tempo adjustable delay, but most fun of all is the arpeggio function. Up to three octaves of arpeggiation are

achievable with additional parameters for the speed and tempo of the arpeggio. The app is fully compatible with the Akai Synthstation 25, and naturally you can record sound from the device when connected to a hardware input for your DAW. In all, it’s a cool little tool for finding some far out sounds.

VERDICT 7/10
