Children’s Programming Our family realizes it’s important to spend some quality time with your family. That’s why we’ve developed a weekly series of kid’s activities to keep you all entertained. Programs are available from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Join one of our naturalists or National Park Service rangers for a talk on any number of topics including A Who’s Who of Owls, Coal Mining history of the New River, New River Ghost Stories, the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid and more.

Crafts Make a keepsake for your memory box during one of our crafting endeavors which includes activities like fabric arts, wood crafts, birdfeeders and other Appalachian folk arts.


Excursions Take a nature hike along Mill Creek. Come to our Stories and S’mores and hear tall tales as you sit around the campfire. Head out to Summersville Lake or Hawks Nest Lake for an evening swim. Visit the New River Gorge Visitor’s Center. Take your turn on the Ricochet. There are all kinds of things to do, and we’ll help you do it!


Interactive Experiences Spend some hands-on time experiencing our area. Make a boat and sail it down Mill Creek, learn about Wilderness Survival, go on a nature scavenger hunt or try your orienteering skills.
