obesity aging
smoking a job where you do heavy lifting
certain medicines—including some high blood pressure drugs, diuretics (called water pills), muscle relaxers, and sedatives
prostate surgery (in men)
pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and hysterectomy (in women)

The most common cause of incontinence in men is prostate surgery. Up to 90 percent of men have leaks for a few weeks after prostate surgery. But if your symptoms don’t get better on their own, see your doctor.
