“Because Aconex is internet-based, participants, wherever they are located, have access to documents. So if I’m in another country and I need to look at a document, I can do it. This means that a lot of work can be done in different locations and time zones.”

Not just big budget The BIW and Aconex platforms are both robust, industry-strength systems provided on a subscription basis (no limits on the number of users or amount of storage used; ultimately, the client pays a set monthly or quarterly fee for the duration of the project delivery process), but there will be clients or projects whose needs are more modest or more focused. Simpler fi le collaboration tools mainly used for conceptual work include Woobius and Slider Studio’s StickyWorld, while clients wanting just to manage NEC contract processes might opt for Sypro. is also a block-level notice- board function that serves as a communication channel regarding shared areas, and allows the block’s manager (or tenants’ association) to survey residents.

Technology on tap

So, whether you are investing in a major project, or simply want to improve services for people in your existing properties (or something in between), there are cloud-based tools that can be quickly deployed, and which, importantly, require no hardware or software investment. And having such ‘utility computing’ on tap means you can rapidly adapt to changing requirements – vital in today’s volatile economic environment.
