News 7 HI Awards voting open for your providers of the year

The countdown to the 2011 Health Insurance Awards has begun with the launch of the voting for your providers of the year. Insurers are already stepping

up their efforts to lobby Health Insurance readers for votes in a bid to win one of the coveted trophies. Last year Aviva UK Health was

your Health Insurance Company of the Year as well as scooping the prize for Best Group Private Medical Insurance (PMI) Provider and Best Occupational Health Provider. Other big winners in 2010 were PruHealth, picking up three awards, including Best Use of Marketing to Intermediaries for the fourth year running, and Unum, which hung on to the crown for our group risk awards. Groupama Healthcare will

be hoping to win the customer service prize for the third year in a row while PruProtect will be fighting off the competition to win

best critical illness provider for the third time – an award which suggests its innovative severity- based approach to the product is appreciated by the IFA community. The year building up to the 2011

ceremony will see significant changes in the health and protection market, from the roll-out of PruHealth’s new range, incorporating the best of the Standard Life Healthcare acquisition, to a new proposition from Friends Life following the acquisition of the protection businesses of Bupa and AXA by consolidation vehicle Resolution. This year we have introduced

a new category “Best Workplace Wellbeing Provider” to recognise the efforts of companies offering products designed to support the physical and mental wellbeing of the UK’s workforce. This is a timely award given the recent announcement that Dame Carol Black will be working with David

Frost, chairman of the British Chambers of Commerce, to tackle sickness absence in the UK. There will also be a single

award for Best Group Risk Provider in recognition of the fact that group risk products are often tied together to provide employers with a unified safety net for staff. Will Unum manage to scoop this or will its rivals manage to edge in front? All intermediaries advising on

relevant health and protection products in the UK are eligible to vote and overseas brokers can vote for best international PMI provider. Voting takes place online at www.hi-mag.com and closes on July 24th. All votes will be validated by Deloitte before a list of winners is compiled, ready to be unveiled at the Awards on 20th October. All voters will be eligible for a prize of£250 of amazon vouchers. HI

NIMBY BRITS’ HEALTH ALERT Most people in Britain believe that individuals should take more personal responsibility for their health, but many do not believe the nation’s problems with fitness and illness necessarily apply to them, research suggests. A survey carried out for PruHealth, the medical insurer, shows that too many people are taking a “NIMBY” (not in my body-yet) attitude to health, PruHealth said. Over half of respondents (52%) state obesity and being overweight as the greatest risk to the UK. While latest official national data show that a quarter of adults (25% men, 24% women) are obese, and 42% and 32% of men and women are overweight, PruHealth’s survey suggests that less than one in ten (9%) of respondents consider it a personal concern.

IP FOR MORTGAGE BROKERS Income protection (IP) provider Holloway Friendly has launched a new plan tailored specifically for mortgage advisers to sell to their clients. The Purely IP policy has no investment element to it, so any adviser qualified to advise on insurance can sell it to clients.
