ELLIOTT JOINS JUST RETIREMENT Just Retirement, the specialist UK life assurance group focusing on retirement income solutions, has


appointedSue Elliott as head of actuarial development – new markets. Elliott is an experienced actuary with a health and protection speciality including long- term care. Prior to her appointment, she worked for Towers Watson and Swiss Re, leading their healthcare work. She will report to Just Retirement commercial director Mark Hawthorne.


JOHNSON FLEMING NON EXEC Johnson Fleming, the corporate pensions, risk and healthcare service provider, has announced the


appointment of Hazel Richards, a Chartered Champion for the Personal Finance Society, as non-executive director. Richards has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, including a wide variety of professional development roles.


AVIVA UK HEALTH CONSULTANCY PRACTICE LEAD Aviva UK Health has confirmed the appointment of Janette Hiscock as health consultancy practice


lead, a newly created role within Aviva UK Health. Hiscock has worked in the healthcare market for over a decade. Her previous roles include national sales manager, working in partnership with intermediaries to manage Aviva’s Health and Wellness client relationships. Most recently she led Aviva UK Health’s Key Accounts and Customer Relationship Management teams as well as the Northern sales team.


BLUEFIN FINANCE APPOINTMENT Bluefin Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Robert Organ as chief financial officer (CFO).


He succeeds Ian Story who steps down this month. Organ is a Chartered Accountant with 20 years’ financial services experience. He qualified with PwC and worked there for 12 years in the UK and Australia advising a number of blue chip insurance companies. He subsequently joined the distribution business of AMP Ltd, the wealth management firm in an executive CFO role and returned to the UK in 2007 to be group finance & operations director for AWD Chase De Vere which is the UK operation of AWD, the IFA.


HEALIX SALES DIRECTOR Healthcare and medical assistance specialist Healix Group has promotedRichard Saunders to sales


director of Healix Health Services. Formerly business development director, having joined the business in 2006, Saunders has worked in the general insurance industry for over 26 years and for the last 11 years in the healthcare sector in a number of roles encompassing business development and sales, including positions within Marsh & McLennan and Medisure. Healix said it is now in the process of recruiting an additional new business development director to support Saunders.


PHC SENIOR SALES ADVISER The Private Healthcare Company (PHC) Has appointedRoss Hebden as a senior sales adviser. Hebden joins


PHC from USAY Health Insurance where he was a private medical insurance sales adviser. Cheltenham-based PHC was established in 1996 and provides health insurance for both individuals and companies on a national scale.

CAPITA OCC HEALTH APPOINTMENT Professor Sir Graeme Catto has joined the clinical governance board of Capita, the FTSE 100 business


process outsourcing organisation. A former President of the General Medical Council, Sir Graeme is emeritus professor of medicine at the University of Aberdeen and was an honorary consultant nephrologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. In addition, he has served as chief scientist for the NHS in Scotland and vice-principal at King’s College London, dean of King’s College, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals’ medical and dental schools and pro- vice chancellor, University of London.


ABI AND AEGON CHIEF EXECS Otto Thoresen, currently chief executive of protection provider Aegon UK, has been appointed new director

general of the Association of British Insurers (ABI). The previous director general, Kerrie Kelly, stepped down in July 2010 after just a few months in the job, returning to Australia for personal reasons. In the interim, Maggie Craig, the ABI’s director of life and savings, has served in an acting capacity. Thoresen has been chief executive of AEGON UK since 2005, during which time he also served on the board of the ABI, most recently as a deputy chairman and


chairman of its life insurance committee and audit committee. In 2007, he led a review for the Treasury on financial advice, which was published in 2008 with its recommendations accepted by the Government. He is also a member of the Financial Services Authority’s financial capability steering group. Adrian Grace will succeed Thoresen as chief executive of AEGON in April. Grace has been chief operating officer of AEGON UK for the past year.


WESTFIELD SALES LEADER Westfield Health has appointedMichael Lowes as national sales team leader. The new role will see Lowes head up


the Sheffield-based cash plan provider’s sales teams in England and Wales. Lowes has a background working in the financial services and healthcare industries, having previously worked for two leading private medical insurance providers.


HEALTHCARE PARTNERS Independent health insurance specialist intermediary Healthcare Partners (HCPL) has announced the appointment ofMarc Chatfield as sales manager and James Steele as communications manager. Prior to his appointment Chatfield has held roles as a director of a small independent general insurance broker as well as positions at Standard Life Healthcare and Sun Life of Canada. He was also national sales manager for the Health Division of Cornhill Insurance. Prior to joining HCPL, Steele spent 15 years in a number of roles at Bupa.
