Med-Tech Innovation Product and Services
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES New name, broader focus
Galway based, Contech Medical International has changed its name to Advant Medical. This is part of an overall re-branding strategy to better reflect the broader services offered by the company. With 20 years’ experience in providing contract design, assembly, manufacturing and packaging services, the company is also highly active in the development of innovative products. These are in the areas of catheter and guide wire delivery systems and vascular access devices. In recent years it has invested heavily in its research and development (R&D) and engineering capabilities and has successfully partnered with many of the leading cardiovascular companies in product development. CEO Bob DiPetrillo, commenting on the change, added “While our focus remains on offering contract services to the industry, our R&D investment means that over the next three to five years we will develop improved and new products under our own brand. The first of which is Centurion, a device that greatly reduces the risk of damage to the stent and balloon during transportation and handling.

UK and Irish distributor, Eurobond Adhesives has expanded its Vitralit range of UV and UV-LED curing adhesives to include NNDMAA- free products. The Vitralit range is also available with a fluorescing agent so that the clear adhesive can be detected by opto-electronic monitoring systems on the production line to ensure uniform dispensing.
The adhesives are tested to USP Class VI or ISO 10993, and they are non-toxic and resistant to gamma,
ethylene oxide and steam sterilisation, says the company. Offering curing times of 0.5 to 60 seconds, the solvent-free adhesives are do not need mixing and have no limited pot life. The adhesives match UV and UV LED curing equipment manufactured by Hönle, which includes UV hand lamps, UV/UV LED point sources and UV/UV LED flood lamps. These are suitable for bonding temperature-sensitive substrates and some typical applications are bonding transparent plastic enclosures, hose connectors, and syringes and cannulae in plastic or glass plungers.

Sharing knowledge on orthopaedic manufacture
CERAM’s just published Quick Reference Guide to its services for orthopaedic implant manufacturers contains application examples and case studies. The guide explains how the company can help manufacturers improve product performance, gain regulatory approval, optimise production by improving yields and reducing costs, independently validate cleanliness, and solve failures quickly and cost- effectively.
Dr Justine Bentley, Technical Sales Consultant at the company, said, “Due to the often very complex and bespoke nature of what we do, we wanted to produce a practical guide which would detail exactly what CERAM can offer. For each service, from material selection to process improvement and failure analysis, we give application examples and benefits that implant manufacturers can expect to see. There are also links to case studies and white papers so that we can share our knowledge and previous experience with our customers.” Go to the website to download the guide.

Device tester for the production floor
Mecmesin promotes its MultiTest-xt touch screen force measurement system for testing Class I, Class II and Class III medical devices and their components on the production line. Designed for the busy production environment, this stand-alone system has all the elements needed to perform quality control assessments, says the company. Programming
functions, test data and evaluation tools are accessed via a straightforward menu navigation structure, which enables quick selection and commencement of tests. For example, in “quick test” mode, a test can be chosen and started with two taps of the screen.
Clear colour coded pass–fail indicators allow smooth, efficient routine in-line checks, and a range of analysis tools provide data interrogation options to highlight points of interest, detect problems and identify critical design parameters for reporting purposes. The MultiTest-xt is available in six capacities ranging from 1000 N to high capacity twin- column test systems up to 50,000 N.
