Budapest Airport leases half of


‘Cargo City’ Budapest Ferihegy International Airport has leased out half of its soon-to-be-built cargo base to Turkish company Celebi Ground Handling. The ground handling company will


be the first tenant at Budapest’s ‘Cargo City’ after agreeing to rent almost 13,000sqm, half the total to be developed by 2012.


Dubai joy The Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) saw a 23% increase in sales in 2010,


compared with the previous year, according to its chairman HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He said growth was driven by the increasing numbers of new companies and expansion by existing companies working in the free zone. Out of the 102 new companies registered in 2010 in the free zone, 28% were European, 27% from the Middle East & Gulf region, 21% from Asia, and the rest from the USA, Japan and others.


Fraport posts record results for 2010 Fraport AG, the operator of Frankfurt


Airport, has announced record profits of €272 million for 2010, with both passenger and cargo traffic also increasing significantly. Last year, Frankfurt Airport handled a


record 2.23 million metric tonnes – a 21.5% increase on 2009. Passenger numbers also increased 4.1% despite disruptions over the year from the volcanic ash cloud, airline industrial action and severe winter weather. Fraport’s five majority-owned airports


handled a total of 88.6 million passengers in 2010 with Frankfurt Airport welcoming more than 53 million passengers alone. Dr Stefan Schulte, executive board

The first phase of the cargo development at Budapest includes 26,000sqm of newly built areas, which will be offered to companies involved in air cargo transportation.

Speaking at the company’s annual press conference for the fiscal year, Dr Schulte added that planned expansion projects, such as the completion of the new Runway Northwest, will allow even more growth. Meanwhile, the Pier A-Plus terminal extension project – expected to be finished in July 2012 – will increase Terminal 1’s capacity by six million people each year. Dr Schulte said he expected passenger


traffic at Frankfurt Airport to grow by 4-7% in 2011, and revenue to increase to more than €2.3 billion.


Shop ‘til you drop A huge four-storey complex designed to be a


one-stop shopping and entertainment centre for travellers and residents alike, is set to open next to Brunei International Airport in the middle of this year. Boasting 174 retail spaces, exhibition areas and even a 22-lane bowling lane, the 46,000sqm Airport Mall will also feature restaurants, high street brands and a supermarket. Valor Property, the exclusive marketing agent for the project, said in a press statement that 60% of the property had already been let. There are 393 car parking lots available in


the basement area, while a 22,000sqm atrium is designed to host events and exhibitions.


Dewan Architects & Engineers will design and supervise construction of the Premier Inn Hotel at Abu Dhabi International Airport. More than US$27.2 million has been invested in the 300-room hotel, which is due to open in 2012 at a strategic location opposite the airport’s new Terminal 3 building.
