WORDSfromReaders Trailer hookup
I wondered if you know of a Canadian source for kayak trailers (ball hitch, tongue and axle type) or had an advertiser running an ad for trailers in a past issue (that I thought I saw in a 2003 issue maybe?). I know about U.S. manufacturers but no Canadian. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Graham Via email
We did an article in fall 2002 on trailering with small two-boat trailers. One of the companies listed is based in Ontario and makes exactly what you’re looking for. You can read the full article in V2I3 online at

Give my regards to Leon Can you send me the latest issue of Adventure
Kayak? I am interested in the interview with Leon Sommé (“Utopia in the North Atlantic,” AK V4I2). Enclosed is a picture of the three [Leon Sommé,
Shawna Franklin and Chris Duff] at the beginning of their trip with some of our locals.

Back in the Great Depression
Thanks for sending me a copy of the latest Adventure Kayak (V4I2), and thank you for the excellent notice about the Canadian Canoe Museum on page 12. The museum's collection of kayaks includes craft from the Aleutians right across the North to Greenland.
What a great piece on the trip around Iceland! Speaking of long trips, when I was in Australia a couple of years ago, at the National Marine Museum in Sydney there was a display about a German who got into his Folbot on the Danube River in 1934 to escape the Great Depression and just kept going until he reached Australia (two Folbots later). Unfortunately, that was just after war was declared and he was interned there for the rest of the war—but chose to stay on in Australia. Gwyneth Hoyle Peterborough, ON
