WE’VE SEEN the launch of a few midi controllers on mobile device platforms, but TouchOSC seems to carefully walk the fine line between design and functionality that we appreciate so much at DJmag.


The app can be set up to run in unison with pretty much any desktop software compatible with a midi interface. This includes DJ software as well as DAWs. There is also the option to download free desktop software to edit your controller interface and create custom layouts


OK, so there are a few technical set-up hoops through which to climb, but once the app is configured you will have full control of your DAW from within your mobile device. There are default layouts for use with the major softwares and you can control effects, filter parameters, mixer settings and even stop/ play/record direct from your device.


Some might look upon a controller app like TouchOSC as a bit of a gimmick. But remember, this is a market which until recently was flush with pricey standalone controller units .
