REACTOR Heavy Water World Tide Watch

This hefty dive-style watch comes with preset high and low tide times for 30 worldwide surf hotspots through year 2099. Re- actor uses an algorithm to extrapolate from a single reading, making it is easy to program tide times for any location your wanderlust leads, if not 100 per cent accurate. We plugged in data from the Reactor website for Tofino, B.C., and managed to tweak our watch’s predictions to within a half-hour of the actual tides in our favourite paddling destination while sitting at home in Ontario. Watching the undulating tide graph is the next best thing to watching the sea. Other features include air and water temperature sensors and multiple alarms to remind you when it’s paddlin’ time. —TS

SEAL LINE Black Canyon, Kodiak Window and Kodiak Taper drybags

Standard vinyl drybags are heavy, bulky, tricky to stuff with gear and trickier to stuff in a hatch. SealLine’s nylon drybags make for less swearing and more space. The best choice for expeditions, the Black Canyon is great for any- thing—think sleeping bag—that must stay dry. It’s made of extra-stiff yet light and slippery Cordura, coated on the inside to make packing easier. Kodiak bags are ultra-light- weight for less strenuous use. The Kodiak Window features a transparent panel and a one-way valve to burp out those last dregs of air. The Kodiak Taper, also with a purge valve, is tailored to fit kayak ends. —CM

KOKATAT Destination Hand Covers

A bartender once told me that the easiest way to identify a person’s occupation was by looking at their hands. A paddler’s paws, he said, will be pasty on the palms and fingers and sunburned across the knuckles—in other words, ripe for shaking with Mr. Melanoma. Kokatat’s Destination Hand Covers—with a sun protection factor of 40—reduce the risk of skin cancer and keep the bartenders guessing. They’re made of light, breezy and quick-drying synthetics, and attach to the wrist with Velcro and to the fingers with elastics, leaving you with a secure, bare-palmed grip on the paddle. —CM
