was about thirty miles in length, and none of it would be very easy going.
boats had to be built to take “Klondikers” through Lakes Lindeman and Bennett, then on by way of the Yukon River the final 500 miles to Dawson City.
OVERLAND TO THE GOLD FIELDS
The overland trip was rough, especially starting out in the dead of winter. Every time that the weather cleared, the trail would quickly fill with “Klondikers” making progress toward their eventual goal. The Fraser group loaded supplies onto sleds, and dragged them out to the trail to start the first leg of their long journey.
The Chilkoot Pass was a chal- lenge for even the most hardy of the prospectors. The fore- boding pass could be seen for quite a distance, along with a ribbon-like mass of humanity slowly plodding to the top. Most of the year the entire dis- tance was covered with snow and ice. Even the ten-mile por-

tion from Dyea to Sheep Camp, at the bottom of Chilkoot Pass, was known as a miserable excuse for a trail, as it wound its way through mushy snow in the winter, crossing a stream sixty- one times. Keeping one’s feet and supplies dry was next to impossible.
The final assault on the pass covered about another ten-mile distance with an elevation gain of 3,500 feet. The last portion became known as the “Golden Stair,” a 30-degree slope that climbed two thousand feet, all covered with ice and snow. A total of 1,500 steps were cut into the ice, and a guide rope helped prospectors pull their way to the top.
With all the supplies, the early pioneers had to make an aver- age of at least twenty round trips to get all of their goods to the top.
months to complete the Chilkoot route, but winter trips took the most effort as bliz- zards, high winds, and sub-zero temperatures also added to the struggle. For the Fraser party, at least the 1896-7 winter was not one of the worst on record—that was saved for the

Once all of their supplies were at the top, a momentary rest stop was made. This was the boundary with Canada, and eventually the North West Mounted Police set up a cus- toms checkpoint at the summit. From the summit of the pass, the trail was entirely downhill for another ten miles to Lakes Lindeman and Bennett. It was much easier to drag the over- loaded sleds going downhill, which was fortunate as many of the party felt their endurance had just about reached their limit by the time they reached the summit of Chilkoot Pass.
In the winter, Lakes Lindeman and Bennett could usually be crossed on the ice. It was a haz- ardous portion of the trip, one that later in the year, beginning in May or June when the ice broke, could be made by boat. From there, the Fraser party made the way down the frozen Yukon River to the gold fields. The swift current made the final 500-mile portion of the trip go by quickly, as long as

Is This What’s Causing Your Sciatica, Pinched Nerves or Spinal Stenosis?
If You Suffer From A Single One Of These Torturous Symptoms – Numbness, Tingling, Or Sharp Nerve Pain – THEN THE FACTS BELOW MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT YOU HAVE EVER READ IN YOUR LIFE!
Pain affects every part of your life -- walking, sitting, and even sleeping. Maybe you’ve had multiple tests, only to find out no one has any idea what you have. Maybe you’ve even been put on a drug with heavy side effects.
Do you have any of the following symptoms... • Sciatica
Will This Really Work?
A medical study found patients went from moder- ately painful to almost no pain with decompression treatments. Those that took pain pills improved less than 5%. – Am Society of Anesthesiologist, 2006 Chicago, IL
• Pins and needles feeling • Numbness in the hands or feet • Tingling or burning sensations • Weakness in the arms or legs • Sharp, burning pains • Spinal Stenosis • Sharp pain in the buttocks
Nothing’s worse than feeling great mentally, but physically feeling held back from life because your nerve or sciatica pain hurts and it just won’t go away!
Fortunately, if you are suffering from any of these problems, they may be relieved or elimi- nated by non-surgical spinal decompression.
Non-surgical spinal decompression is a tech- nology that has been proven to reverse disc herniations. It creates a vacuum effect on the disc, which pulls the disc back into its normal position and brings in a fresh blood supply to promote healing. Spinal decompression treat- ments are very gentle. In fact, every once in awhile I even catch a patient sleeping during session
Another study presented at the American Academy of Pain Management in 2007 showed…“Patients reported a mean 88.9% improvement in back pain and better function…No patient required any invasive therapies(e.g. epidural injections, surgery).” These are just two studies out of a dozen done in the last few years, all show- ing promising results.
