TECHNEWS IN ASSOCIATION WITH SIDECHAIN REACTION

WE’VE ALL HEARD of the sidechaining process before and thanks to Jonny over at Point Blank we can now do it too!

APP REVIEW

APP NAME : BASSLINE + MODRUM DEVELOPER : MARKUS WALDBOTH FORMAT : PRICE :

TWO MUSIC MAKING APPS THIS WEEK, both from the same guy and with the same idea behind them – but one is for bass and the other for beats. To BassLine first, if we are to follow the release dates on the app store. A virtual analogue bass synth with a 4 channel (up to 64) step sequencer and effects, the main control interface takes seconds to learn and even fat fingers will have no trouble creating a 303esque synth bassline. A very cool add-on is that you can jam along to tunes in your iPod library.

iPHONE/iPOD TOUCH/iPAD £2.99 + £3.99

MoDrum is a 32 step sequencer for kick, snare, open hi-hat, closed hi-hat and ride cymbal. The presets cover key electronic genres and it’s worth playing around with these to get an idea of the interface. Once you’re up and running, you’ll be free to experiment with your own beat creations. By far the best thing about both of these apps is that you can email your creations from within the app, exporting at 44.1kHz 16 bit WAV. This means you can begin your next production on the go, then mail the ideas to yourself to drop into your desktop DAW at home.

VERDICT 9/10
