ACID HOUSE NEVER DIES. It does, however, regularly get reissued - check DJhistory’s recent Trax re-edit compilation which celebrated the Chicago label’s 25th birthday - and remade - such as on Poker Flat’s forthcoming ‘Forward to the Past’, featuring the likes of KiNK and Deetron. The man we have to thank for this is DJ Pierre and his band mates Spanky and Herb J in Phuture. Messing about one day with a Roland 303, a bit of kit originally designed to
simulate a bass guitar, Pierre instead discovered that it could make unearthly noises that, once unleashed by Ron Hardy at Music Box, would work their way around the world until they reached the shores of the UK. The rest, as they say is history, or at least a bit of myth, legend and folklore all rolled into one. Anyway, this isn’t any acid in his chart but there is plenty of lovely, roughly contemporaneous disco, electro and Chicago house.
