India reaching its full potential

A few years ago the government of India announced a Semiconductor Policy to great fanfare and generally based upon assumptions of how many companies and regions India needed to entice to kick start a semiconductor industry that was more known for its software than hardware capacity. The grandly proposed plans of the Semiconductor Policy did not come to pass as China and other Asian countries benefitted from that industry. The Indian semiconductor policy slowly changed focus and soon it was renewable energy in the firing line of expectation.

After a number of years fostering the local opportunities many critics believe that 2011 is going to be the year that India’s solar industry takes off. The key difference to the solar hopes as opposed to the semiconductor hype is that much of the solar growth will be initiated by Indian companies. There is a positive feeling in the country about the direction of this emerging industry for the country as the local market opportunities are growing as fast as the manufacturing ones.

Here is a round up of some of the recent news coming from the region.
