Jack B. Robbins,Major General, U. S. Air Force (Ret.) and co-founder of Robbins- Gioia, Inc., passed away December 16, 2010 in Loudoun County.Hegrew up in New Albany,MS, and was the devoted husband for 67 years of Constance Knott Robbins, also of New Albany.Jack enlisted in the US Army reserve in March, 1943. He was commissioned through the aviation cadet training program and held pilot, navigator, and flight engineer ratings.Jack flew the C-119 “Flying Boxcar” during the Korean War. When he retired in 1975, he was the Air Force Director of Data Automation and Commander of the Air Force Data Automation Agency.OnAugust 1, 1980, Jack and John Gioia formed Robbins-Gioia, Inc., acompany dedicated to helping man- age large projects in the public and private
sectors.In1988, Jack retired from Robbins- Gioia. He served on R-G’sboard of directors and as president and member of the Air Force C4 Association. In 1997, Jack and his wife,Connie,moved from their home in Annandale,VA., to Falcons Landing, a continuing care community in Sterling, VA. There,Jack was an active member of the investment club and the chapel committee, and served the community in avariety of volunteer capacities,including dispensing prescription medicines to residents at the on-site pharmacy.Jack and Connie have four children and three grandchildren. He was agenerous supporter of the University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences, and an avid fan of Crimson Tide Football. She is remembered as an interesting, caring, and giving person. Extremely private in her personal life,her wit and modesty were hallmarks of aremarkable woman who remained faithful to her fiancé, who died ahero in WWII. Her natural inclination and ability to offer hospitality provided atouch of elegance and great joy to multitudes in her public life.
She is survived by nephews,Doug Sanders, of Potomac,MDand Frank Sanders of Devils Tower,WY; and niece,SaraGilbert of Colorado Springs,CO.
BETTY LOUISE GILBERT
Born September 29, was returned to God on December 23, 2010. In life,she served as Administrative Assistance to the Armed Forces Epidemiological Board, retiring in 1978. During her employment,she was twice awarded the Department of Army’sDecora- tion for Meritorious Civilian Service.Early in her career,she served overseas with the American Red Cross from 1946 to 1949 in based in Germany.
She was an Elder at the National Presbyter- ian Church. She served as President of the Business and Professional Woman’sGuild at NPC and past president of the Women’s Board of the Presbyterian
Home.She also served for several years on the Board of Directors at the Presbyterian Home.

she attended the University of Rochester where she majored in Psychology and Spanish. Christine earned aMasters Degree in Public Health at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and dedicated her professional life to helping those with behavioral and mental health issues.
Choosing aprofessional path of service that reflect- ed her deep love and concern for humanity,she counseled low income women in Salinas, California. Later,joining the U.S. Federal Government, Health and Human Services, she coordinated public health centers geographically and worked to improve health carepolicies. Her compassionate insight into the understanding of personal challenges guided her approaches to innovative therapies and policies.
Christine had an abiding desiretoconnect to the goodness in others through her spiritual practice. She completed Willow Street Yoga Center’sYoga Teacher Training in 2006. Her spiritual journey took her to India and many States as she explored religious, psychological and interpersonal path- ways. She was renowned for her masterful yoga teaching and powerful healing relationships. The yoga community honors her with deep fondness and respect.
Christine is remembered by her spouse, Rita Etter,her parents, Janet Guthrie, John and Stacey Guthrie, her brothers Mark Guthrie &Jeff Ward, and her sister Laura (Jim) Ragonese.
AMemorial Service in celebration of Christine will be held on Saturday,January 1at2p.m. at the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, 310 Tulip Ave., Takoma Park, MD.
