For the final 10 years of his life,


Long’s back trouble kept him con- fined to a wheelchair, but, despite his physical ills, his sprit remained strong.


“I don’t say I’m the happiest man in the world,” he said in an interview at his residence in Mount Pleasant before his death. “But I could not be any happier.”
