Two in the Hand I received a Rapid renewal request via email but I have two subscriptions, an individual one and one through Whitewater Ontario. You’re prob- ably wondering why I would have two subscrip- tions. The second one I leave in the car. I often run into new paddlers at the Gull River or Palmer Rapids and we get to talking about the best way to get involved in the sport. I like to be able to offer them a copy of Rapid, along with my club newsletter (Wilderness Canoe Association—I’m the Outings Chairman). I also see there is a new paddler from Toron-
to, Jocelyne Menard (River Signals, “Standard Deviation,” V10,I1), who is having trouble fi nd- ing people to paddle with. I’m one of those old time club members who
still hasn’t given up on helping newcomers. As Outings Chairman, and as well as running intro trips myself, I work with other like-minded club members to ensure that we are user-friendly for new paddlers. If you could please pass along my contact
information to Jocelyne and paddlers in simi- lar situations, we will see that she has some opportunities to get out with some welcoming fellow paddlers. We’re mainly Cboaters, but as they say these days, “we value diversity” and we have open boaters, C1ers and ‘yak jockeys on all our outings. Bill Ness

at the Movies I took in the fantastic Reel Paddling Film Fes- tival premiere and I just loved it! I would like to say though that I was disappointed with the overall quality of the canoe fl icks. I’m one of those canoer-turned-kayaker lads and with the general quality of whitewater canoeing on display it is easy to see why more people are switching over to kayaking. What happened to the good old Green River days? You guys said in your “101 Things Every Paddler Should Know” (V9,I3) that it’s a lot easier to make love in a canoe. Aren’t canoes worth a better display of paddling porn?

Big Night in Whitehorse I just packaged up and will be shipping you tomorrow everything from our screening of the Reel Paddling Film Festival. The festival was a big success. Our second best event turnout ever. We sold 86 tickets and had about a 98 per cent turnout, which is very good for us con- sidering there were many other events the same night. The fi lm, Source with the run of Alexan- drea Falls was very popular with the local white- water paddlers. We showed 10 DVDs, four- and-a-half hours worth of fi lm. We had a great selection to choose from. My personal favourite was the two-man Source to Sea paddle to Begal Bay. Each year our crowd is different and we never know who is coming, but we sent them all home to bed very tired and happy. Thanks for the show, and don’t forget us next year.

Spanks for 10 Years I just read Scott MacGregor’s “Ten Great Years” editorial (Off the Tongue, V10,I1) and enjoyed the story very much. I like the parallels between him and Hugh Hefner. Imagine if Hefner would have located his mansion on a river somewhere, instead of southern California. Silk robes go with fl oral board shorts, don’t they? As do bunnies and boats? David Blue

Congrats folks. I have every issue of Rapid and may have hung up the paddle years ago if not for your ability to re-energize my spirit every spring. And living in a place called Cold River that’s hard to do sometimes! Here’s to 10 more years.

Missed Credit Our sincerest apologizes to our good old friend Lorenzo Del Bianco who created all of the il- lustrations in our 10th Anniversary Issue retro- spective feature (V10,I1). We got so wrapped up trying to remember what happened a de- cade ago that we forgot to credit him for all of his hard work.—Eds
