short-term basis. Ilie Jolta, former Romanian regional overseer, is the center director.

Initially, the center was a vision shared by three men dur- ing a chaplaincy conference in Oradea: Robert D. Crick, W. D. Watkins, and Radu Tirle. The Stratford Heights Church of God in Ohio, then pastored by Wat- kins, provided the initial funds to purchase the land and begin the

first phase of the building project. The formal groundbreaking took place in 2005. Funds to complete the project came from John and Joan Gregory, the Lazarus Foun- dation, a world missions fund drive, the Tom and Elaine Offutt family, the Chaplains Commission Board of Directors, and churches and individuals across the United States. In all, some $1.5 million was raised.—Wayne Roberson

Collegians Staff Cambodian Camp

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia— People for Care and Learning’s (PCL) fourth annual Cambodian youth camp was a success with 300 campers and 20 Lee Univer- sity business students serving as camp staff. Lee professor Guy DeLoach led the team of students. According to PCL director Fred Garmon, for the first time the camp included children from Takam and another rural village where PCL has built several homes

and micro-enterprise projects. For several of these children, it was their first time out of their village. “Our children from the Siem Reap Children’s Home continue to improve in English as well as leader- ship skills,” Garmon stated. “Six of them volunteered as translators at the camp and did an incredible job. They also led in music ministry.” With assistance from a grant from the Leonard Center, the Lee University servant leadership

arm, the camp incorporated a service-learning component. “We brought in 300 kids from the surrounding village in Battambang and taught them how to brush their teeth, and the importance of hygiene to good health,” Garmon contin- ued. “Every child went home with a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and towel. This was a great testimony to the surrounding community.”
