Learn to create
control programs using ACEs (Animated Control Environments)
For Design & Technology Control a real model using FlowGo
Control
• ACEs use ‘Flash’ animation to show cause and effect. • Commands are selected from a dialogue window.
• A text view is given to help understand the program. • A program can have multiple Starts and Procedures. • Sound recordings in various formats can be added.

What is an ACE? • An ACE is an on-screen model that includes sound and animation.
• Animation with realistic sound effects make control tasks more engaging and, where there are moving cars, show what happens if there is no control system - Crash!
• Each ACE includes an on-screen control task, and information about the ACE. • The 2D and 3D models are based on Adobe Flash format and can be scaled to any size.
GoCONTROL software includes all of these ACEs: ACE Town
• ACE Town - with 6 animations • Model Pack One ACEs - 3 animations • Model Pack Two ACEs - 3 animations • Interface ACEs include FlowGo ACE - a virtual interface that shows outputs and input LEDs while running or creating a program.
• Zebra Crossing This is the simplest ACE in the Town. The challenge is to make the two amber beacons flash so that motorists are aware that a pedestrian may be crossing.
• Cross Roads In this ACE there are two sets of traffic lights controlling the vehicles. The traffic lights must work together so that vehicles coming from different directions don’t cross over the road at the same time and crash.
• Town Hall This ACE has an analogue sensor which is used to measure the level of light. The light level is controlled by the ACE and will automatically rise during daylight hours (100%) and then fall at night (0%).
• Bridge Lights This ACE is designed so that you can control the lights on one side of the bridge only. The other side is controlled by the ACE.
IN CONTROL
• Pelican Crossing You need to create a program that lets cars travel along the road unless someone presses the button at the pelican crossing.
• Train Level Crossing This ACE uses Inputs, Outputs and Motors. The Inputs are automatically controlled by the ACE. The barrier arms are raised and lowered by using a Motor. The motors are controlled by using limit switches as feedback.
Model Pack One ACEs
• Fairground • Lighthouse • Car Alarm
Model Pack Two ACEs
• Traffic Light • Bee • Washing Machine
