Norman Weissman, 90, of Springfield, Virginia died on October 2, 2010 at the Capital Hospice in Arlington, Virginia after abrief illness.Mr. Weissman was born in New York City in 1920 and served with the US Army in the Pacific Theater during World WarII. Following the war, he married Julia Weissman and worked with the US Postal Service,retiring in 1974. After living in Plainview,New York, he and his wife relocated to Springfield, Virginia in 1991 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. During his long life,Mr. Weissman enjoyed working with model trains,attending NewYork Islander hockey games,and writing fiction and his memoirs .Hewas preceded in death by his wife Julia in 2008. Mr.Weissman was the beloved father of Lois and her husband Christopher Chadbourne of Arlington, Virginia, and Robert and his wife Bonnie Weissman of Vienna, Virginia. He was also the loving grandfather to Sarah Weissman, of Baton Rouge,Louisiana and Wendy Weissman of Vienna,Virginia. John also appeared in “The Visit” for the Kensington Players, and was nominated for Best Actor in the 1971 D.C. One-Act Play Tournament for that role.
John had also been an active member of the Wheeling Jesuit University alumni community,serv- ing as aclass agent for morethan 40 years. Most recently,inJune 2010, John was selected by his classmates to be one of the first inductees into the Wheeling Jesuit University Hall of Honor.This achievement, of which he was especially proud, is awarded to the graduate who best exemplifies outstanding contributions to their profession, soci- ety,and the greater WJU community.

Of Annandale, Virginia, died suddenly at his home on Saturday,August 28, 2010.
