IRO

Membership with benefits

n

Currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Institution

of Railway Operators is seen as the organisation of choice for those wishing to develop an operational career within the rail industry. Becoming a member of the

institution offers access to a programme of courses, which are tailored specifically to the needs of those working in the industry, and will provide members with professional affiliation and recognition. In addition, members are eligible to receive career guidance and mentoring, and will have plenty of opportunities for networking with leading industry professionals, as well as fellow members.

‘Membership is open to anyone working in, or associated with, any part of the railway industry worldwide’

Delivered in conjunction with Glasgow Caledonian University, the IRO’s Professional Development Programme provides nationally recognised qualifications at certificate, diploma and degree levels. Membership is open to anyone

working in, or associated with, any part of the railway industry worldwide. This includes those

who are already involved in the operations profession, as well as people outside the industry who wish to prepare for a career in the railways.

In 10 years, the IRO’s

membership has grown to some 2,000 members, which includes those from freight and passenger operators, light rail and metro/ urban systems, rolling stock and infrastructure providers, infrastructure renewal and maintenance companies and heritage railways as well as the monitoring, regulatory, consumer and safety bodies. Benefits of IRO membership include a programme of lectures, visits and social visits around

the country, free subscription to Rail Professional, attendance at the Annual Members’ Lunch, seminars or any other event, which may include a payment and will be subject to availability of places. Members will also have the opportunity to visit the Knowledge Centre of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, access the library of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers and attend the Railway Study Association’s events in Birmingham.
