Tracking the changes One of the constant features in the scholarly publishing industry is change: changes in technology; changes in business models and availability of funding; changes in how researchers use information; and changes in research itself.


The way that researchers work is being investigated in a three-year study commissioned by the British Library and JISC. On page 11 the two organisations reveal some of the early fi ndings of their study into young researchers and how they use resources. Another ongoing change is the growing


presence of China on the research stage. Following on from last issue’s look at the research landscape in China, on pages 18 to 22 of this issue we look at some of the opportunities for publishers. Technology is, of course, changing too. On


page 24 David Stuart gives an introduction to the concept of RDF triples and their potential benefi ts for the semantic web.
