LYNNE TRUSS
According to Nick’s phone, they were heading north-north-west (he had an app that was a compass), towards a river (he had GPS). In the overgrown parts, he turned his phone into a torch. When they needed fire, he started one by using an app that lent his phone the properties of a convex lens. Katy started to hallucinate. A song went round and round her head. Nick had an app that identified it, which made him feel better. When they were found dead two months later, what no one could understand was why they’d never called for help.
▪ Lynne Truss is the author of Eats, Shoots & Leaves. Her latest book, Get Her Off the Pitch! is published by Fourth Estate at £8.99
