For the sixth time, we welcome you to this special guide dedicated to the Mobile Zone.
From day one, the Mobile Zone has allowed those involved in the mobile TV and video industry to keep up with the growing pace of innovation in both mobile TV and video technology and services. And it’s pleasing to say that in 2010 there is absolutely no change.
What has changed though is the broadcast industry in general which is now at a tipping point. The last few years have seen a revolution in the development and delivery of broadcast content. The advent of smartphones and innovations in other consumer devices, combined with the emergence of IP-based distribution technologies have transformed viewers from passive receptors to active selectors of globally distributed content.
Enabled by the mass availability of high bandwidth network infrastructures—including satellite and cable as well as DSL, fibre and 3G/wireless networks—TV and video content is now being consumed everywhere around the home and beyond, delivered to set top boxes and other receivers such as state of the art TVs, PCs, laptops, netbooks, media tablets, mobile phones, games platforms and portable media players of all description.
Whereas not so long ago mobile was regarded as a complement to the greater broadcast industry at large, mobile is now an integral part of multi-platform broadcast solutions. It’s only natural for the Mobile Zone, as an integral part of Europe’s premier leading broadcast event, to be taking a lead in setting the agenda to reflect this.
This year, for the first time, the Connected World at IBC2010 will showcase the new technologies driving this revolution under one roof in Hall 9. The Connected World will feature many of the most exciting technologies currently impacting the broadcast industry, including netbooks, games consoles, tablets, media players, mobile phones and other consumer devices. Alongside there will also be a series of presentations and briefings which will put all of this technology into context and see how users are shaping a new broadcasting world and will examine what broadcasters need to do to turn this user demand into profit.
We hope you enjoy this guide as to what has established itself as an indispensable part of the broadcasting exhibition calendar
