From Our Bishop Gathering, giving and gratitude

Rally Day. We would later hold our Every Member Canvass, visiting every member of the parish in order to live out the words we said in our service, “All things come of thee, O Lord; and of thine own have we given thee.”

And then in the late fall, just before our nation’s Thanksgiving, we would celebrate Harvest Home Sunday, when we would give

thanks for the bounty of God’s good earth.

I have found myself pondering that

sequence of gathering, giving, and gratitude. Of course, we gather each Sunday.

this not only in how we support the Body of Christ through our giving, but also with our total posture of how we care for possessions of wealth and property as stewards.

Inextricably connected to this is gratitude. We are thankful to God and show it in all that we do.

This issue of the Messenger focuses on stewardship, a seasonal theme. I commend each of us to take time and space to be more thoughtful and attentive to gathering, giving and gratitude. Intentional focus in this season can be transformational in all seasons. By practicing the Christian discipline of stewardship, we care for ourselves, our church, and our wider

community. And that is what Jesus calls us to do.
